Fried Mozzarella Sticks

3It doesn’t get simpler than this. This might not be your healthiest appetizer, but it sure is delicious.
The pictured Mozzarella Sticks are fried, but you can bake them and get the same great results!

Fried Mozzarella Sticks

Ingredients

Prepare the sauce first.

  • Tomato Sauce
  • 1 medium size onion, peeled and diced
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 can of diced tomatoes(300-400 g)
  • Parsley
  • Salt
  • Pepper

To fry the Cheese Sticks

  • 1 lb mozzarella Cheese Sticks
  • 1 egg
  • Flour
  • Panco Bread Crumbs
  • Garlic Powder
  • Italian Seasoning
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Instructions

Make the sauce

  1. Preparation:
  2. Sautee the onion until golden in color, add garlic and the tomatoes. Simmer for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the extra moisture to evaporate.
  3. Puree with a hand blender. Allow to cool.

Make the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. Turn your deep fryer to 350F.
  2. Mix together, bread crumbs, garlic powder and Italian seasoning.
  3. Whisk the egg with a pinch of salt.
  4. Cut the cheese sticks in half.
  5. Dip each cheese stick in egg wash, then dredge in the crumb mixture and set on a baking sheet. Repeat with the rest of the cheese sticks.
  6. Freeze for 10-15 minutes (this helps the cheese sticks retain their shape).
  7. Fry in the deep fryer for about a minute, trying not to overcrowd the frying space.
  8. Set on a paper towel, allowing the extra oil to be absorbed.
  9. Alternatively, you can bake the cheese sticks.
  10. To bake:
  11. Follow steps 2-5, then freeze for 30 minutes.
  12. Bake at 400F, for 8-10 minutes. The cheese sticks might loose their shape a little, but that does not affect the taste, so enjoy!
