Chocolate Dipped Pretzels

Every year around Christmas I want to decorate cookies with the kids, but imagining that I would have to bake the cookies, make the frosting, color it, then put the frosting into piping bags, then wash them or waste money by throwing them away – I get a headache just thinking about it! Then, I found this genius idea on Pinterest and I almost jumped from excitement because I knew what I could do with the kids, that did not involve 54 steps in preparation and about 97 in clean up. Dipping pretzels in chocolate and then  covering them in a choice of toppings proved to be easy on the prep, easy to execute, fun for the kids and even easier to clean up. Seriously, how did I not come up with this before..?

If you do gift baskets for Christmas, you could definitely include a couple of these in there.

Chocolate Dipped Pretzel Sticks

What you will need:
Pretzel Sticks
Chocolate Melts
Your choice of:
Sprinkles,
Peanuts,
Min M&M’s
Dried Cranberries
Chopped Almonds
Mini Marshmallows
Mini Chocolate Chips

What you will need to do:

Prepare your choice of things to dip the chocolate covered pretzels in {after I took the picture, I realized that you need to have all your choices on separate flat plates, not like the ones shown on the picture}

Melt your chocolate in a double boiler or microwave, mixing it from time to time with a spoon until smooth, being careful not to overheat the chocolate.

With a help of a canning funnel transfer the chocolate into a tall glass

Work with one pretzel stick at a time.
Dip it into chocolate. Lay flat onto a bed of sprinkles, and sprinkle more on top. Do not move the stick as the toppings will just fall off. Burry the chocolate covered pretzel in your topping and leave for a couple of minutes for the chocolate to set/harden (could put in the fridge).
Meanwhile work on your other pretzels and toppings.

      • How long do you boil the mixture? Are we tlkaing 5 minutes or 30 minutes? Also, do you leave it on medium heat or reduce it? I, like another commenter, would like to know when you add the sea salt. They look yummy, and I can’t wait to make them.
