This past 4th of July we decided that instead of the usual shish-kabob we were going to bring burgers to our family get together. I can not stand the store-bought burger buns or the hot dog buns. They have some kind of sour, chemical smell that is very off putting, so making my own homemade burger buns was really a no brainer. Combined with a homemade burger patty and everything else we put on them, the burgers came out incredible! If you have a bread maker, then the whole process is even easier! Try them at your next BBQ and be amazed at what a difference homemade burger buns can makes for your burgers! Also, stay tuned for the recipe of homemade bacon burger patty, I am working on it right now!

Golden Buttery Sesame Burger Buns
2 Cups Milk, warmed to 100F
2 eggs, room temperature
1/3 cup butter, melted (2/3 stick)
1 Tbsp instant or active dry yeast
3 Tbsp sugar, granulated
1 tsp salt
5.5 cups flour, all purpose

Egg Wash
1 egg

Also
Sesame seeds, to sprinkle on top

Preparation:
*First check to make sure that your yeast is still active. Combine 1/3 cup warm milk, yeast, 1 tbsp sugar and stir everything until sugar is dissolved. Let sit at room temperature for about 5 minutes. The mixture should rise and double or triple in size. If it does not, discard your yeast and buy a new pack of yeast.

Combine puffed up yeast mixture and the rest of the ingredients in the bowl of a mixer and knead until it comes off from the walls of the bowl. Allow to rise in a warm, draft free place until doubled in size covered with a clean kitchen towel.
Or, put all ingredients into the bread maker and turn to the dough cycle, it should be knead and allowed to rise during the cycle.
Once the dough has doubled in size split in half, then split that half in half again, keep splitting pieces in half until you get 18-24 pieces, depending how big you would like the buns to be.

Shape each piece into a ball, tucking the ends underneath until the top surface is round. Then, press on top to make them more flat. (First picture is from the smaller buns, the second one is of the larger ones). Place them on a parchment lined baking sheet about 2-3 inches apart.

Cover the dough patties with a clean kitchen towel or a paper towel and allow to double in size.

If you would like, make a criss-cross incision on top of your buns. To do so, with a sharp serrated knife slash the top of the bun about 1/3 inch deep.

This turned out faster and easier than I thought! I made half of the recipe to test it out and the buns turned out great! Made it so much easier using the bread machine as we live in a house than tends to be a bit cold 🙂 thank you!
